WORKING FORUM THREE: Business Development and Set Aside Readiness


Professional business development workshops will focus on developing the skills necessary for successful business development related to small business in preparation for potential set aside work.

QMS2 Takes a two pronged approach to a business’ success:

  •Ensuring employee performance; and,
  •Assuring clients of their satisfaction in the product/service delivery.

 

This workshop focuses on the elements of a Quality Management System as an ongoing process while ensuring a balanced scorecard approach is considered along the way. Participants will be provided with an example of a company Quality Assurance Manual and a tool to begin their own Quality Management System.

1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. - FINANCIAL ANALYSIS OF A BUSINESS
This workshop discovers the importance of risk assessment when managing the financial affairs of a business. Participants must come prepared to work through a case study of a company including the measurement calculations for:

  •Current Ratio
  •Debt to Equity
  •Debt Service Ratio
  •Gross Profit Margin
  •Sales Growth
  •Accounts Payable Days
  •Accounts Receivable Days
  •Asset Turnover

 

The importance and rational for understanding the above calculations will be explained and can be directly related to preparing for companies for potential set aside work.

 

9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. - THE PROCUREMENT PROCESS: Responding to Requests for Contracts or Proposals



In today’s business world; industry, private sector organizations, and government make use of a process for procurement through the “Request for Proposal” (RFP). This mode of procurement can be a daunting task and many businesses fail to adequately understand if their company can profit from entering into this form of competition. An overview of the RFP components are briefly reviewed before participants enter into a team based case-study to determine costing for an RFP to deliver Camp Services.

 

This process will include the following:

Expected Outcomes and Impacts

 

Dehcho First Nations communities will be in a better position to benefit from business development, business successes, employment, training and preparing for sustainable development as a result of participating in the conference and working forums. Support for sustainable development, keeping business in the North and preparedness for the anticipated Mackenzie Gas Project and potential set asides will be achieved through this event.
